Inputting and outputting 1080p video signals without altering their natural specifications.

The 1080p signal format used by Blu-ray Discs offers the highest image quality among high-definition video sources. The VIERA processor receives 1080p video signals in their original format. It applies optimum signal processing without down-converting to output the same high signal quality.

Up-converts SD video signals to 1080p signals. Delivers pictures as beautiful as those from HD video signals.

The processor converts signals of present TV broadcasts and DVD software to 1080p high-definition video signals. It up-converts the video signals without causing any loss in the signal or image details. It also applies progressive conversion to upgrade 1080i high-definition video signals to 1080p signals. This allows VIERA to render pictures that are more beautiful than the original.

    Finer Gradation, Greater Expressivity.

Maximum 16-bit video processing makes it possible to reproduce images with 3,072 equivalent steps of gradation. The picture noise and black blocking that occur with insufficient gradation is suppressed even in scenes with intricate detail, fine textures and subtle expressions. Even the most detailed parts of an image are rendered with beautiful smoothness.

Increased luminous efficiency achieves maximum contrast of 10,000:1.

The ability to express rich, deep blacks is extremely important for displaying beautiful pictures. VIERA uses the Real Black Drive System to minimise pre-discharge emission and improve the expression of black colours. In addition, the Deep Black Filter for the front protective glass further enhances rendering abilities to deliver richer, deeper blacks. The VIERA screen also minimises glare even in well-lit rooms to ensure high picture quality.

An HDMI cable carries not only digital video and audio signals, but control signals too. That means you can use your VIERA remote control to operate a DVD recorder, HD video camera and other equipment connected to your VIERA TV. For example, use your VIERA remote to control a recording operation with your DVD recorder or to start and stop playback of scenes from a video camera. With VIERA, extra ease and convenience are part of the entertainment package.
